Question by Citygirl: Can chronic head and neck pain be caused by TMJ?
I have daily pain on the right side of my head-in front of my ear, my temple area, my right eye and the right side of my neck. I have bruxism where I grind my teeth at night (my molars are ground down pretty short). In addition, my far back molar on the right side collapsed in height after a root canal. I was wondering can TMJ cause stabbing severe pain in the areas mentioned above similar to migraine symptoms? The pain seems most severe in my temple area.

Absolutely…over use of the temporalis muscle can cause this. This muscle is responsible for elevating the mandible (as in clenching teeth) and extends from the side of the head (temple area )to the mandible.

Question by nursegrammy: what type of at home work is available 4 a retired trauma room nurse besides medical billing?
I left nursing(R.N)) after twenty five years, and now am at the top of my field in optics. Iam area manager for the Albuquerque area. I have very strong management and administravtive skills. I also have strong human relations skills. I am looking for tele-commuting, or at home work.

I would try the financial services field. There is a lot of money being transferred from 401K’s right now and its a great opportunity to own your own business.

Crossbow Lessons for Christmas
shot for knee pain

I just got the best Christmas present from a friend of mine. His name is Electrigrapher Joe.

He promised me crossbow lessons a few weeks back, but his work called him away, so he had to cancel.

I was sitting all glum in my house; I didn’t even get dressed today.

But then the phone rang. It was Joe — and he was just outside my house. With the crossbow, bolts, and target cube.

Everything a girl needs for an impromptu crossbow lesson. I got dressed pretty darn quick.

We trudged through knee-deep snow into my backyard, where Joe set up the target cube on my upended wheelbarrow. We borrowed a plywood backboard from my next door neighbor.

Then Joe showed me how to use a range finder, how to handle the crossbow, and how to load it with a bolt (that’s bolt, not arrow).

He gave me a sort of pained look as I struggled to pull the string up — even with pullers. Just not strong enough. Yet!

But that aside (Joe took pity on me and armed the bow), I hunkered down in the snow, aimed using the crosshairs, and fired.

Yahoo! I am a damn good shot. But don’t take my word for it — take a look at that target cube.

Thanks, Joe! My best Christmas present in years!

God be with you!

PS We’re going hunting, right?

By the way, Joe is also an talented photographer — he took this shot. Tough for a Nikon guy to use a Canon, but he managed (smile).

I lost my smell in a head injury?

Question by Freddy: I lost my smell in a head injury?
About four weeks ago, I was skating down a very steep hill at my friends house on a longboard. Unfortunately, I bombed the steepest hill, made it to the bottom, and hit a water puddle while turning at the bottom. (the hill ended at a street, I couldn’t go straight) So I wake up in the hospital, and I have no memory of what actually happened, so my friend had to explain to me what happenend. Turns out I fractured two vertibrae, and had a serious concussion which led to minor bleeding in my brain. Now i have recovered quite well, I still cannot play contact sports or many other activities. The one thing that has happenend is that I have lost my sense of smell completely! Its amazing, I cannot smell anything. So im just curious if this is a side effect of something big, or if its nothing to worry about. I’ve informed my doctor and he said that it is actually quite common and that I might get it back, and I might not. So can someone relate to this? Does anyone know another person who has lost their smell after head trauma?

Never heard of that, but just like with any other brain injury like a stroke, the neurons usually reconnect the damaged pathways over time. This means you’ll likely regain your sense of smell.

Q&A: Foot pain. Largest Joint?

Question by : Foot pain. Largest Joint?
Like 3 years ago I got a large Wart removed from right on top on the joint. The procedure had no problems and everything was fine. But now (3 years later) When I wear high heels the joint (on top near where the wart was) starts to burn really bad. Could there have been an underlining problem to the joint? Im worried
It was a large common wart. one of two (second on my thumb). home treatment didnt do anything to my toe wart and it was there for two years before removed

See your health care provider as soon as possible (dermatologist), for consultation. Warts are caused by a virus and are a reaction to a minor local viral infection. If you get one, you’re likely to get more. When one disappears, the others often follow. The exception is plantar warts, on the sole of the foot, which go away by themselves and sometimes not even with home treatment; the doctor may be needed.

Cellulitis is a common, potentially serious bacterial skin infection. Cellulitis appears as a swollen, red area of skin that feels hot and tender, and it may spread rapidly.

Skin burning sensation gives a feeling like a bad sunburn. However, most of the time, no marks of the burns are visible. This is a very annoying condition and can give a lot of discomfort. It may be confined to one particular location or it may shift from one part of the body to the other. The condition can persist for a long time at a stretch or it could recur after some time. Most of the time, the burning sensation on skin does not have any specific origin.

Diabetes can affect every part of the body, including the skin. As many as 33 percent of people with diabetes will have a skin disorder caused or affected by diabetes at some time in their lives. In fact, such problems are sometimes the first sign that a person has diabetes. Luckily, most skin conditions can be prevented or easily treated if caught early. Avoid wearing high heel shoes for awhile.

See a doctor for a proper diagnosis and treatment.

I hope this helps you. And good luck.
